2023 Pennant Survey

In 2023 the Zone sent a survey to all clubs asking for feedback on six questions relating to running Zone competitions, in particular Pennant.

The questions were;

a) Have 3 pennant competition areas or continue with 4.

Three areas may alleviate the need for multi grade comps in A and B, although C and D will still need them due to numbers. With 4, clubs get at least 2 games in a round robin.

With 3 areas there would be byes in all types of finals, see (b)

b) Continue with Round Robin finals or have Knockout finals

Round Robin gives clubs a chance to play 3 games in the finals over 2 days, although if there are only 3 sides in the round robin there would have to be a bye, as against knockout with semi-finals and a final that would be on one day saving a night’s accommodation.

d) Allow pennants to be played on a Saturday or Sunday, area dependant.

e) Four in Section

If there are 4 in a section prefer 6 games or 9.

f) Conduct a Zone wide competition in the top grade.

g) Midweek Zone only competition

The format would be a 5, 6 or 7 aside competition if supported.
